2015 Honda Odyssey vs 2015 Acura MDX
People keep saying that the crossover utility vehicle is the future of the industry, that minivans are going to disappear and be replaced by them. While we agree with the fact that crossovers are the future, we don’t think minivans are going anywhere, especially considering the popularity of the Honda Odyssey even in a fledgling segment. We thought we’d take a look at some of the differences and similarities between minivans and crossovers by comparing one of our favorite minivans against a competing midsize crossover, so we decided to pit the 2015 Honda Odyssey vs 2015 Acura MDX to show exactly that.
Advantages of the 2015 Honda Odyssey
We can simply take a look at the table above to see just how similar the two vehicles are, and at the same time just how superior the 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan is in certain categories. When it comes to highway fuel economy, the two vehicles are identical, each utilizing 8.4 litres per 100 kilometres. Moving to the bottom of the list we can tell that their maximum towing capacities are identical as well, each able to trailer 3,500 lbs. behind themselves. But between those two categories, the table shows that the Honda Odyssey has a pretty massive advantage in the form of cargo capacity.
Behind the back seat alone the Honda Odyssey nearly triples the amount of space available for filling with luggage or some other cargo, offering an extra 23.6 cubic feet than the Acura MDX. Drop all the seats inside of either vehicle and the advantage gets even more drastic as the Odyssey provides an extra 80.1 cu. ft., which is more than double what the MDX offers.
