2015 Toyota 4Runner vs 2015 Ford Explorer
Hands down, one of our favorite utility vehicles on the market today would have to be the Toyota 4Runner. It offers all the necessary features of a sport utility vehicle, and on top of all that it is one of the best-equipped vehicles for off-roading that we offer. We thought we’d take a closer look at it in comparison to what many would probably say is its greatest competition, by comparing the 2015 Toyota 4Runner vs 2015 Ford Explorer. The Ford SUV has been around for several years, debuting in 1990 and quickly became one of the most popular midsize SUVs on the market. But you might find it surprising that the 4Runner has actually been around even longer, originally debuting in 1984.
Advantages of the 2015 Toyota 4Runner
Let’s start by looking at the power ratings, which is actually the only area the Ford Explorer has any kind of advantage. The Toyota 4Runner has 270 horsepower, but the Explorer surpasses that by 20 hp. However, the 4Runner has an extra 23 foot-pounds of torque and a curb weight 4,400 lbs, which is 157 lbs. lighter than the Explorer. So even though the Explorer has a bit more horsepower, overall the 4Runner is more powerful and can deliver a more enjoyable driving experience.
The rest of the categories are a wash, as the 4Runner is the clear victor. First let’s look at standard cargo capacity, where the 4Runner can accommodate more than 25-extra cubic feet of your space behind its back seat alone. Drop those seats down in either vehicle and the advantage closes, but still the 4Runner has 9-extra cu. ft. of space for your stuff. Even the fuel tank in the Toyota SUV is superior, being able to hold an extra 4.4 gallons of gasoline. Schedule a test drive online today!
