2016 Cadillac ELR vs 2015 BMW ActiveHybrid 3
Hybrid drivetrains and alternative fuel methods are becoming increasingly popular each year, and as the technology improves more and more vehicles pop up as contenders in the segment. Just a couple years ago Cadillac introduced its own luxury hybrid called the ELR, and already it’s undergoing major changes for the 2016 model year to make it even more efficient and practical. We wanted to compare our incredible premium hybrid with another popular luxury hybrid, so we took a closer look at the 2016 Cadillac ELR vs 2015 BMW ActiveHybrid 3.
Advantages of the 2016 Cadillac ELR
As you can see by taking a look at the table above, the two vehicles are similar but also quite a bit different in terms of specifications. Let’s first take a look at power, where the ActiveHybrid 3 seemingly trumps the ELR. While the BMW vehicle may have 135 more horsepower than the Cadillac, the ELR does have a 41 foot-pound boost in torque, and on top of that the ELR is probably going to be quite a bit lighter overall which will enhance power as well.
But what’s more important than power is fuel efficiency, which thanks to having less power is far superior in the 2016 Cadillac ELR. While an exact number has not yet been released, it is confirmed that it will improve over the previous version of the vehicle’s numbers, so we know that its combined fuel economy will be less than 7.2 l/100km. That kind of fuel efficiency in a luxury vehicle is something to admire, and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel to take it for a test drive ourselves.
