2016 Honda HRV vs 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Until the all-new, tenth-generation Honda Civic was announced and showcased on the stage, the HRV might just have been the most talked-about vehicle Honda was rolling out for 2016. It had a short run several years ago, but with the sudden boom of popularity for the subcompact crossover segment, Honda decided to completely renovate and resurrect the model for the new model year. Now that everyone is talking about the Civic, it’s begun to fade into the shadows a bit. But we’re here to remind you just how impressive the little crossover is, by comparing it to one of its competitors as we take a closer look at the 2016 Honda HRV vs 2016 Hyundai Tucson.

Advantages of the 2016 Honda HRV

Let’s take a look at the table posted above to get a better idea of the differences between the two models. First taking a look at fuel economy, the 2016 Honda HRV needs just under one whole litre less to drive 100 kilometres. That might not seem like a whole lot, but it could save you quite a bit of change at the gas station in the long run. Of course, the Hyundai Tucson does have a fairly substantial advantage of its own, in terms of passenger volume. But considering the Tucson is actually a step up, belonging to the compact crossover segment rather than subcompact, we don’t thing that advantage means too much.

If you’re glancing at the table, it might seem like the Tucson also has a huge advantage in power. 23 horsepower is a fairly substantial boost over the HRV, but when you take into account the fact that the Honda crossover weighs almost 450 lbs. less that big boost is severely slashed. The lighter the vehicle, the less power it needs to do the same amount of work. We’re not going to say that the HRV is superior in terms of power, as there’s no real way to tell, but we’d step out on a ledge and say they’re probably pretty evenly matched.
