Supercharged Performance in Honda CR-Z
The Honda CR-Z has always brought excellent fuel efficiency to a sporty car. But the one complaint driver’s have had, is that it doesn’t bring quite as much power as is to be expected in a sportscar. The 2014 Honda CR-Z, while looking like an excellent sportscar, only pumps out 130 horsepower at 140 lb-ft of torque. Now, manufacturers are putting supercharged performance in the Honda CR-Z.
Honda has now made available, in 2013 and 2014 models, a dealer-installed Honda Performance Development supercharger kit that increases the CR-Z’s powertrain output to 197 horsepower. Mostly, the company HPD focuses on North American Honda racing, but they recently began developing this entire HPD street performance system.
The supercharger kit not only boosts the powertrain output, but also includes an air-to-air intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors, an ECU that is calibrated to meet CARB AT-PZEV regulations with 91 octane, and an air filtration system. The kit itself will cost right around $5,500 dollars not including the cost of installation. It won’t affect any warranties that came with the car, like the 5 year/60,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, as long as it is installed by a Honda dealer.
This is a fantastic kit that really boosts the power of the CR-Z for those sportscar fanatics looking to get a little more speed and performance. HPD also created a limited slip differential and sport clutch that are available at dealers as well, adding even higher performance to the supercharger kit. All of this power brings track-like quality to a street-legal sportscar, and should have enthusiasts chomping at the bit to increase their power.
