New Driver Assist Collision Prevention Technology
Technology is constantly seeing advancements, and it’s no different in the automobile industry. The past couple of years have seen tons of new technologies in terms of safety, with a laundry list of new driver assist collision prevention technologies. We just wanted to make sure that you knew what some of the different technologies found in some of our new vehicles do for you, and how they work.
Lane Departure Warning
One of the most popular of the new technologies is Lane Departure Warning. This is a system that utilizes cameras to recognize where the lane divider lines are on the road, and watches them to make sure you stay in your lane. If you begin to drift over the line without a turn signal on, the system will notify you of your lane departure.
Side Blind Zone Alert
Another of the most popular is the Side Blind Zone Alert system. This makes it much easier for driver’s to know whether or not its safe to change lanes, as it utilizes a radar technology so that whenever someone enters your blind zone you’ll receive an alert notifying you that they are there.
Forward Collision Warning
Similar to the Lane Departure Warning system, Forward Collision Warning utilizes camera technology to notify you if your vehicle is approaching another car in front of you at too fast of a speed. This is just a warning system notifying you to brake, it will not stop for you.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Unless of course you also have adaptive cruise control on. Adaptive cruise control takes your cruise to a whole new level, as it will adjust itself to different situations like braking autmatically to a safe following distance if a vehicle is coming up in front of you, or even coming to a full stop at things like toll booths.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
Rear cross traffic alert works in conjunction with a rear view camera, and it alerts you if a vehicle is about to cross behind you while you’re in reverse. This is similar to Side Blind Zone alert as it utilizes the rear camera to scan areas that you can’t see and help to prevent a rear collision.
As you can see, these are great new technologies that will surely help cut down the amount of collisions and make you feel much more safe and confident behind the wheel. But be sure to remember that these technologies are no substitute for your own judgment. You are still responsible for making the moves and analyzing situations, these are just useful in enhancing those judgments that you make.
