How Chevy Silverados get their strength
Chevy Silverados are some of the toughest on the market, but where do they find that strength? What makes them so powerful? Well, we found five things that go into the building of a Silverado that makes it one of the strongest trucks on the road, and we’re going to clue you in just in case you were as curious about how Chevy Silverados get their strength as we were.
1 – Duralife Brake Rotors
Silverado 1500 models come standard with four-wheel disc brakes accompanied by Duralife brake rotors. The way that these brakes and rotors are built give the Silverado incredible stopping power, braking performance, and they protect against rust that could eventually be detrimental.
2 – Tough Cargo Box
The Silverado’s cargo box is not only one of the most innovative in the industry, it’s also one of the strongest. Utilizing a roll-formed steel to build the floor, it not only bolsters the durability of the box it lowers the truck’s total weight as well. Plus, spray-on stone protection keeps the outside of the box protected, box rail protectors along the top for further protection, and an available spray-on bedliner as well.
3 – Advanced Small-Block Engine
The small-block engine utilized in the Chevy Silverado has been trusted for more than sixty years, and simply been continuously improved through the years. This model year’s engine comes in three different sizes, each packing their own amount of power into the hood. A 4.3L V6 with 285 horsepower and a V6-class-leading 305 lb-ft of torque, a 5.3L V8 delivering 355 horsepower alongside 383 lb-ft of torque (and the best V8 fuel efficiency in the industry), and lastly a monstrous 6.2L that boasts the most light-duty truck power in the industry at 420 hp with 460 lb-ft of torque.
4 – Fully Boxed Frame
The fully boxed frame of the Silverado consists of three different sections utilizing main rails and major cross members all built from a high-strength steel. This base creates such a strong foundation that it gives the Silverado a greater ability to haul, confidence in their safety, and a much longer life cycle.
5 – High-Strength Steel Reinforced Body
Lastly, the high-strength steel reinforced structure of the Silverado’s body works in conjunction with the full boxed frame to build up the truck’s strength even more. This high-strength steel makes up around 67% of the truck, and its used in rockers, roof rails, A-pillars, B-pillars and some areas within the interior. Then they boost it another level to use ultra-high-strength steel in things like rocker panels and the underbody.
These are just a few of the things that go into the manufacturing of Chevy Silverados, making them some of the strongest beasts on the road.
